Kilkenny Castle Yard

The Castle Yard at Kilkenny Design Centre

Welcome to the home of Irish craft and design. Our roots were established in the Kilkenny Design Workshops in 1963 by the Irish Government in Kilkenny City. The workshops were founded as part of an initiative to support local makers and designers, helping to hone their skills and develop an entrepreneurial network in the city. Today, Kilkenny Design together with the Design & Crafts Council Ireland and Butler House, bring a unique experience to visitors thanks to a bustling and revitalised Centre. The Castle Yard celebrates a community of curated independent craft makers and designers from potters, jewellery makers, fourth generation hurl makers, and much more. Enjoy meeting the makers during your visit and discovering the magic of Irish design in each live workshop.
